PsychicForce Wiki

Psychic Force 2012 (サイキックフォース2012) is a 3D fighting game developed by Taito and originally released in 1996 for their WOLF system arcade board, notably the only title released for this board. The game was later ported to the Sega Dreamcast and Microsoft Windows in 1999 and published by Acclaim in western territories. A version for the Sony PlayStation was released in 2000, entitled Psychic Force 2. In December 2012 the game was re-released in the arcades for Taito's NESiCA×Live online service, which runs on Taito's Type X2 arcade board.

Story[]

Year 2010. Psychiccers, people endowed with exceptional ESP abilities, attempt to live peacefully in the world. Nevertheless, they are pursued by governmental authorities for possible military application. The government believes Psychiccers can replace the world's reliance on nuclear armaments. Psychiccers are rounded up and subjected to the most inhumane of experiments. Many perish during these tests.

In order to save his remaining comrades and create a utopian society, a lone Psychiccer, Keith, forms a rebellious Psychiccer Group to fight the human race. The group is named NOA. Regrettably, Keith's initial utopian ideals are gradually transformed as the world is eventually conquered and ruled by NOA.

Keith’s best friend, Burn, begins to question NOA’s destructive tendencies. Without a prescribed plan, Burn challenges Keith head on. In the name of promoting justice, the two enter into a protracted battle. The battle dramatically concludes due to the treachery of Wong. While Keith and Burn are inside NOA's underground fort, Wong blows up the fort, annihilating almost everyone inside. Keith and Burn disappear in the ensuing flames.... Survivors captured by Wong are sent to join the Psychic Army. Tragically, not only do the Psychiccers lose their leader, Keith, but once again they become lost children in the Darkest of Ages.

Now it is 2012. Neo-NOA's announced mission to resurrect Keith brings the group into direct conflict with the Psychic Army lead by Wong. It marks the beginning of a period of endless battles.

Gameplay[]

2012 features the same gameplay as its predecessor, with one-on-one fights inside of cube grids and characters being able to freely float in a 2D plane inside of the arena. It features the same mechanics from the previous game, though with refined controls and balance adjustments.

The Psycho Gauge works much like before, but this time the gauge will raise the more the character takes damage, to a total of 200%. The gauge is used in much the same way as before, being consumed by executing special moves or special maneuvers, with both the Barrier Guard and Quick Dash returning and new maneuvers being introduced, including the Slide Dash, which allows the player to side-step, the Barrier Break, which breaks the opponent's guard, the PSY Impulse, which allows a knocked down player to push the opponent away, and the Hyper Charge, which sacrifices life meter in exchange for raising the Psycho Gauge.
